Determine Your Budget
Before you start UTV shopping in earnest, it’s important to set a budget. Make sure that you have a firm understanding of how much money you are willing and able to spend. That way, you can eliminate models that are outside your price range...before you spend time considering them. It'll also help keep you from overspending.
A simple new UTV will usually cost around $10,000. A new and more advanced side-by-side will usually cost around $20,000.
If you are on a smaller budget, a used UTV can be a good option. These side-by-sides will be much lower in cost due to the impact of depreciation.
Consider the Purpose of the UTV
When shopping for UTVs, it’s important to think about how you will primarily be using your side-by-side. Different UTV models are better suited for different activities.
For example, maybe you want to use a side-by-side for hunting. You may want to prioritize storage space for your gear, a quiet engine, and a camouflaged paint job.
Or maybe you want to use your UTV primarily for farming. You'll need the side-by-side to be compact enough to fit through any fence gates or barn doors. If you want to carry large amounts of fertilizer, livestock feed, and so on, you may want a UTV that can tow a trailer.
The more you can articulate the intended use of the UTV, the easier it will be to determine if a given model is a good match for your needs.
Think About Your Passenger Needs
UTVs can usually accommodate two to six people. It's important to think about how many people will typically be riding with you. If you frequently UTV with a large group, then you will need to get a model that has enough space to accommodate everyone comfortably.
On the other hand, if you UTV by yourself most of the time, then opting for a smaller model could make more sense. Not only will it be less expensive, but it will also be easier to handle on your own.
