Cold Weather ATV Riding Tips
It's possible to enjoy a comfortable ATV trail ride even when the temperatures drop. Just use the following tips!
1. Dress in Layers
Dressing in layers will keep you much warmer than wearing one bulky item of clothing.
Start with a thin moisture-wicking layer, then add an insulating mid-layer, and top it off with a windproof outer shell. If you get warm as the ride goes on, you can always remove a layer to ensure that you stay cozy but not too hot.
2. Wear a Cold Weather Helmet
It's always important to wear an ATV-approved helmet. But if you go trail riding in cold weather often, you may want to invest in a helmet designed with extra features such as insulated linings for extra warmth. It'll give you the safety protection you need as well as protect against the cold.
3. Bring Extra Gloves and Socks
Bring extra gloves and socks in case your current set gets wet from snow or rain. Not only will extra gloves and socks keep your hands and feet warm, but they'll also help prevent any blisters or chafing that can occur when ATV riding in cold weather.
4. Bring a Thermos of Hot Beverage
Having something hot to drink during the ride can make all the difference. Try bringing a thermos of hot tea, coffee, or cocoa and sip through it during breaks on your ATV ride.
